French
In Year 2 Madame Bond introduces the children to the French language using the BBC programme Salut Serge. The children get used to hearing and speaking French and the topics covered include greetings, food family, hobbies, weather, animals, colour and direction. Each programme includes footage of French children in France giving the children an understanding of the similarities and the differences between the two cultures. The children are encouraged to develop their understanding of the French way of life by carrying out individual research at home for the French Home Challenge. As well as completing a tasks related to the lesson. Birthdays are celebrated with a song and a card. In the summer term the focus is on French fairy tales such as the Three Little Pigs, Little red Riding Hood and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.
French is an incredibly enriching experience for our children and gives them the foundations to learn a modern foreign language.
