Welcome to Year 1!

This page will help explain some of the awesome learning taking place in the Lemons, Grapes and Peaches!

TWINKLE TWINKLE HOOK

The Year 1 children had an incredible surprise on Monday when an elf and a mysterious wrapped-up box appeared in their classrooms! The air was buzzing with excitement as they eagerly gathered around. Inside the box were all sorts of magical, Christmassy goodies to brighten their classrooms. To their amazement, the elf was holding a special scroll that revealed he wanted to learn all about the Christmas story, and he needed the children's help to uncover its secrets. The children jumped into action, diving into the wonders of the first Christmas. Then, they set to work decorating their classrooms with festive cheer and rehearsing for their nativity performance. Every day since, the children have come in to find the class elf up to his mischievous tricks, keeping everyone on their toes and full of laughter!

FIRE FIRE OUTCOME

What an absolutely thrilling outcome for our Fire Fire project! The museum was buzzing with energy, alive with excitement as the children proudly shared their incredible learning with their families. Over the past 6 weeks, the children have transformed into true historians, immersing themselves in the story of the fire with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Their passion and enthusiasm have been nothing short of spectacular, making this project an unforgettable journey of discovery!

FIRE FIRE!

Wow, what an incredible few weeks we've had in Year 1! It all started with a mysterious old suitcase that appeared one morning, sparking a wave of curiosity. Inside, the children found fascinating artefacts from the past—a weathered book about a massive fire, a leather bucket, and ancient maps of London. The excitement was palpable as the children eagerly began to research and uncover the secrets hidden inside the suitcase.

It didn't take long to discover that the artefacts were linked to the Great Fire of London, and that’s when the real adventure began! The children dove into learning how the fire started, why it spread so quickly, and the heroic efforts to try and stop it. To bring the past to life, they created their own miniature cities to understand how tightly packed the houses were. They even tried their hands at using water squirts, fire hooks, and human chains to see just how effective they would have been in fighting the flames.

Putting out the fire

Then, using their newfound knowledge of chronology, the children worked together to sequence the events of the fire. But the excitement didn’t stop there! At the end of last week, they were magically transported back to 1666, where they met none other than Samuel Pepys himself. He shared his unforgettable experience of the fire, and the children couldn’t get enough of his captivating stories. They asked brilliant questions and were completely spellbound by his first-hand account. What a thrilling journey through history!

 We have been delightful designers!

Wow- just look at the children’s creative upcycled products. They have worked insanely hard and we couldn’t be prouder of them if we tried- what resilient children we have in Year 1.

 Save our seas!

Wow, the children have been busy bees over the past few weeks and have been learning how to become more sustainable. After learning all about the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle the children have been designing their own upcycled products in DT. Don't they look wonderful?

Express Yourself!

Wow, what an exciting start to Year 1. The children have settled in beautifully and were absolutely shocked to see that someone had messed up our classroom on only the second day! They instantly became detectives and pieced together to clues and discovered it was the ‘Wild Things’. They have been busy writing golden rules posters for the Wild Things so they can make better choices next time!
